Dakar, Senegal – President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will always adhere to the existing laws in connection with the House of Representatives` refusal of the government`s candidates for the post of Bank Indonesia governor, a minister said.
“The President will always adhere to the existing laws,” Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa told reporters on the sidelines of the 11th Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit here on Thursday.
“Under the existing law, the President will nominate a new candidate,” Hatta said.
After all, the President wanted the House to explain the reason behind the refusal, he said.
“By doing so, the public will know what has happened,” he said.
The House voted to reject Agus Martowardojo and Raden Pardede as candidates for the Bank Indonesia governorship on Wednesday after two days of fit and proper tests.
Agus is currently the president director of state-owned Bank Mandiri while Raden is the vice president of state-owned asset management company PT PPA.
The vote included 50 members of all 10 factions at the House commission XI for financial affairs. Twenty nine members voted to reject both candidates, 21 members chose Agus and none chose Raden, while one member did not attend the vote.
