World Congratulated SBY and The Election on July 8, 2009

Putrajaya – Prime Minister Najib Razak Thursday congratulated Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, over the latter`s impending victory in the Indonesian presidential election.

“I spoke to him this afternoon (through telephone) and he was very happy with the call.

“I happen to be the first leader to call and congratulate him, although he official results (of the election) have yet to be announced because the process will take two weeks.

“However, all indicators clearly show that he (Susilo) will be retained as Indonesian president,” Najib told reporters after the 3rd meeting of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority.

“He (Susilo) wants to enhance Indonesia-Malaysia relations as he regards it as very important.

“He is also at ease and happy to deal on matters with Malaysia and with me,” said Najib.

And from Jakarta – The US embassy here Thursday issued Ambassador Cameron R Hume`s statement congratulating Indonesia for carrying out the presidential election on July 8, 2009.

“We congratulate the government and people of Indonesia for an orderly and peaceful presidential election,” the ambassador said.

The presidential election once again showed commitment of the Indonesian people to their dynamic democracy, he added.

He also congratulated President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for his victory which has become clearer and the ambassador hoped it could create better relations between the two countries.
