Firdasari challenges France`s Pi Hongyan in Singapore Open

Singapore - Indonesia`s female single shuttler Adriyanti Firdasari challenged first seed Pi Hongyan from France in the second round of the Aviva Singapore Open after the two won in their first matches in the Super Series tournament.

Firdasari who now ranks 33rd in the world moved to the second round in the US$200,000-prized tournament after beating Russian Ekaterina Ananina 21-14 21-12 in the first round on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Pi Hongyan who ranks 5th in the world and is the runner-up of the French Super Series moved to the next round after conquering Slovenia`s Maja Tvrdy 21-9, 21-16.

Firdasari and Pi Hongyan have never met before and the upcoming match at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will be their first meeting.

Another Indonesian female shuttler, Pia Zebadiah, also won the qualifying round after beating Canada`s Charmaine Reid 21-17, 21-12.

Pia will meet third seed Wang Chen from Hong Kong in the next match to reach the quarter-finals.
